Hatch or Go Bad

It may be hard for an egg to turn into a bird; it would be a jolly sight harder for it to learn to fly while remaining an egg. We are like eggs at present. We must be hatched or go bad.

We’ve already done something magnificent by getting to this moment. Let’s face it — some of the obstacles we’ve overcome have taken others completely out of the game. So, if you’re still here to play the second half of 2012, congratulations!

Here’s the thing, though. That shell you’ve been nestled in is about to do one of two things: break, or become your casket.

No matter how badly we’ve screwed up yesterday, or for the past decade of yesterdays, it apparently wasn’t bad enough to kill us. Or it was, and God spared us. We’ve done all of our crazy living inside the shell. We haven’t seen the light of day. We haven’t been pushed off the tallest branch. We haven’t felt the success of flight. Sweetie Pies, it’s time to hatch.

Let’s make a decision together to not go bad. Let’s decide to not be consumed by something just because it’s bigger than we are. Every day that we move in our purpose we’re creating a crack in the shell. Eventually, it will give way. It will break. That’s the moment we wait for but do nothing to bring about. That’s the moment we’re beginning to fear will never arrive, isn’t it? I know that’s how I feel. However, I now realize that I don’t have to can’t afford to wait on some outside force to crack me open and discover me. I can break this shell open from the inside. Indeed, it’s probably much safer that way.

Time is on your side is a line that liars say and fools believe. It’s not. If we don’t do something every single day to achieve flight, our potential, our opportunities, and our fearlessness will die. Time and chance, as chaotic as they may feel, are finite. Time is not on our side. It is our greatest competitor.

I shared a post on Facebook and Twitter about not breaking the chain, and yesterday I signed up on dontbreakthechain.com to hold myself accountable. If you’ve been having issues with moving forward, I highly suggest you read Catherine Ryan Howard’s post and sign up on the site. I just updated mine before I started writing this post, and it told me that I’ve been getting things done for 2 days straight. Damn skippy!

I believe I created another crack.

Sweetie Pies are talking!
